Wunderkind Therapy Services work with typically developing children (aged 3-18 years). Therapy may be particularly beneficial for children whose skill level is not in line with their peers or who need an ‘extra hand’ to reach a developmental milestone.
Services are focused on skill acquisition and refinement across a range of areas:
- Physical skills
- Thinking skills
- Self-help skills
- Social and emotional skills
- Communication and language
Assessment
Comprehensive assessments are completed to identify an individual’s difficulties, strengths and capabilities. A combination of interview, clinical observation and standardised assessment is used. Meaningful goals are established in consultation with the child, his/her family and teacher and are used to guide treatment. Outcome measures are used at regular intervals to monitor progress towards these goals.

Group Programs:
School starters:
This group is designed for children in the year before school and throughout their Kindergarten year. It is focused on acquisition and confidence building in the skills needed for “big school”. A variety of fine and gross motor, cognitive and perceptual activities are incorporated along with social skill development.
Core curriculum:
Core Curriculum can improve the health and fitness of all children. It is especially beneficial for those children with low muscle tone or those who are deconditioned due to injury or illness. Exercises target increased core control, muscle strength, endurance and body awareness to make it easier for children to meet the demands of everyday life, such as carrying a heavy school bag, maintaining good posture on the mat or at their desk to complete school work, sport participation and play.
Finger ninja:
Finger Ninja can improve the fine motor control of all children. It is especially beneficial for those children with poor handwriting or scissor skills, restricted play or reduced independence in self-care tasks (manipulating fastening, tying shoelaces, using cutlery). Increased strength, endurance and co-ordination of the small muscles of the hand will be targeted along with proximal stability and technique.
Study skills:
Targeted at upper primary and high school students, this program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to get organized, plan and prioritise their workload and manage extra-curricular activities. Information on how memory works, along with internal and external memory strategies are discussed to enhance learning, along with health and lifestyle considerations.
